Challenges
The Seagreen offshore wind farm project presented several significant challenges. Firstly, the installation of approximately 19 kilometers of underground cables had to navigate complex terrain, including intersecting with the East Coast Mainline railway, the A90, A92 roads, and various watercourses. Additionally, the security and monitoring requirements for such a critical project were demanding, involving continuous 24/7 surveillance and response to CCTV activations along the cable route.
Solution
To address these challenges, Nexans appointed a security service provider responsible for 24/7 Manned Security, Mobile Security Patrols, and CCTV Remote Monitoring. This included strategically located security personnel at satellite compounds and roving Security Officer patrols at key junctions. The use of SmartTask tracking and i-Auditor software facilitated real-time monitoring and custom reporting, enhancing visibility and transparency in security operations. Furthermore, contract cleaning services were provided to maintain welfare facilities on-site.
Conclusion
Despite the project’s geographical complexity, extensive material and personnel movements, and challenging topography and climate, the security and cable installation operations proved effective and efficient. The deployment of security personnel and advanced monitoring systems ensured the safety and security of the project. Additionally, the use of innovative tracking and reporting tools built trust and confidence among project stakeholders. Overall, the Seagreen offshore wind farm project demonstrated successful collaboration and problem-solving in the face of demanding challenges.
